Dakshin, known as the first South Indian restaurant at Crowne Plaza Chennai Adyar Park, has been showcasing the rich diversity of South Indian cuisines. The interiors of Dakshin have been inspired by the temples of South India. Traditional brass lamp and the Urli (vessel) with flower petals floating in water welcome you as you enter. The menu too has a temple door design, while the lights are in the shape of temple bells, traditional wood carvings, embellished walls, and artists playing Carnatic music treat to your eyes.
MacroTraveller would consider dining experience at Dakshin to be one of my more authentic ones while in Chennai. The food was delicious, and the ambiance was exceptional. Service was outstanding. As the name suggests, you get authentic Indian food here. The quality of food is excellent, and hence the cost is bit high. The food is worth every penny spent, and add to that the elegant ambiance and friendly staff. Dakshin is a must go to if you’re in Chennai.
I had a variety of dishes that I will not attempt to describe (Enjoy the Pictures). All served in a traditional setting of banana leaf. All food was excellent with a large selection of both veg and non-veg dishes. As you all know, I’m a vegetarian. I just enjoy veg items. The menu was very elaborate with a variety of items to choose from. From Keerai Vada, Pazha Charu for starters to Vazhathandu Moru Kozhambu, Chemadumpa Vepudu, Katru Kootu, Keerai Masiyal, Carrot Thoran, Bendakaya pulusu for the main course.
Must Try at Dakshin: Banana Dosa, Dakshin Yera, Vazhai Shunti, Nandu Puttu, Veinchana Mamsam, Meen Moilee, Padpe Upkari, Chinna Vengaya Patchai miligai Mandi, Kori Rassa, Idiappam, Veechu Paratha, Curd rice, Appam, Mukkani Icecream, Elaneer Payasam, Badam Halwa, South Indian Coffee.As for coffee with steamed milk after dinner! Quite a show they put on in making it. Highly recommend!
Traditional Navratri Thali at Dakshin!
I gladly wait for the different food festivals that they typically organize as what they serve to the table is unparalleled, something that no other place in the city has on its menu. I was lucky to be there on Navratri to savor some mouth-watering Navratri delicacies at the restaurant.The traditional set-up as Dakshin decorated Golu, a doll figurine display, a thematic representation of ancient narration depicting the tales of Navaratri. It was a beautiful treat to watch golus. The Navaratri Thali was delicious and sumptuous. I enjoyed the whole thali, to be honest one the best I had in a long time.
