Five Destinations for Kite Surfing | #MacroTraveller

When looking for the perfect spot to do kitesurfing, it is advisable to take into account various aspects: the wind, an essential element to carry out this sport; the beaches of the place and the tourist attractions of the country that is visited. Based on these aspects, we developed a list with five places to do kitesurfing, in which you will find not only the perfect wind to navigate, but also the most beautiful landscapes.

Kitesurfing is a water sport of sliding, in which a traction kite is used that pulls the athlete, while this one slides on the water by means of a board. This activity is especially striking among tourists who want to venture into an extreme and fun experience, as it is a fast learning and provides a great adrenaline rush.

What places to visit? Check our list and choose the one that best suits your needs!

  1. Los Roques, Venezuela

Los Roques is an archipelago consisting of some 50 islands, where you can find crystal clear waters, a very varied ecosystem, and virgin beaches. In this place, you will enjoy perfect weather conditions to perform this fun sport, while immersing yourself in a spectacular experience full of turquoise colors, pristine beaches, starfish and plenty of fish.

If your motivation is to visit a paradisiacal place, calm and full of peace, Los Roques is perfect for you. Being this a National Park, you will not find great luxuries or a very active nightlife, but you will be able to taste the freshest fish and seafood, you will enjoy gorgeous beaches, and you will sail incredible colors. If you decide on this destination, we recommend that you visit the archipelago between January and July, when you will find wind between 15 and 21 knots.

  1. Cartagena, Colombia

Cartagena de Indias is a Colombian city located on the coast of the Caribbean Sea. Over the years it has become one of the main tourist destinations in Colombia due to its natural and historical appeal. Cartagena offers not only very beautiful landscapes and spectacular beaches, but also excursions, tours, and a very active nightlife.

If you want to sail along the coast of this beautiful city, we recommend that you head north of the walled city just before you reach La Boquilla. The time when you will find the most favorable weather conditions for kitesurfing is between December and April. If you travel in any of these months, you will enjoy a wind between 11 and 27 knots.

  1. Borácay, Philippines

Boracay is perhaps the best place to do kitesurfing in Asia. It is an island located north of the island of Panay in the center of the Philippines and has the most suitable weather conditions for water sports wind, as well as beautiful beaches, a very active nightlife, and a great gastronomic offer. If you are a beginner and want to venture into this sport, Borácay is the perfect destination.

If you bet on Borácay to spend a dream vacation, I recommend that you travel to the Philippines between November and May, when you will find a wind between 11 and 33 knots.

  1. Canary Islands, Spain

Gran Canaria is a wonderful place to enjoy other types of landscapes, including incredible volcanic sand beaches and different spots to navigate thanks to the trade winds, whatever your level. We recommend visiting the Punta de Maspalomas, Agaete, the beaches of Águila and del Tajarillo. If you are a veteran in this sport, you can go to Vargas, where the professional’s practice.

I recommend that you visit Gran Canaria between October and February, when you will find the best wind to navigate.

  1. Sardinia, Italy

Italy is not only a spectacular destination for lovers of culture, history, art, and good food, but also for those who love the sea and water sports. The south of Sardinia is a perfect place to do kitesurfing, specifically between Chia and Santa Margherita di Pula.

If you travel to Sardinia on your holidays and want to practice kitesurfing, we recommend that you visit Poetto beach, Maddelena beach, Chia beach, and Santa Margherita di Pula. They are beautiful, and you will find weather conditions without equal in the summer months thanks to the hot wind that comes from the south.
