Honor launches another smartphone, the Honor 9 Lite. The focus lies with two dual cameras here clearly on the generation Selfie. But even apart from the double clicks, the Honor 9 Lite has a lot to offer. The Honor 9 Lite is a new smartphone that, with a combination of low price, stylish design and a stand-out feature, hunts for young customers in particular. Not just one, but two dual cameras. I’ll tell you what the Honor 9 Lite can do.
Honor 9 Lite: Design and Quality!
A smartphone does not just have to be technically good, and it also has to look good. Honor understood this and tapped the recipe for success of the Honor 9 in the design of the Honor 9 Lite. Glass front and back, slightly curved at the edges and provided with finely shimmering reflections: this looks chic and high quality. The frame, which holds the glass surfaces together, is made of plastic, but that only really stands out when you look closely. Visually, the Honor 9 Lite succeeded no question.
The processing of the pre-production device that we hold in our fingers is good. Although the openings in the frame, such as for speakers, micro USB port or SIM slide, not quite as elegant as an aluminum frame, that does not bother in everyday life. Honor donates a transparent silicone case to ensure that the glass does not get scratched. The 7.6-millimeter thin and 149-gram Honor 9 Lite is very comfortable in hand. The fingerprint sensor on the back is easy to reach and works fast.
Fantastic Display for Little Money!
The days when cheap smartphones had small, grainy displays are long gone by many manufacturers, including Honor. The Honor 9 Lite comes with a 5.65-inch screen with a Full HD Plus resolution of 2,160 x 1,080 pixels, therefore, and is in the current trendy, slightly stretched 18: 9 format held. The frames around the screen are quite thin, and Honor calls the “Full View Display.” The presentation is sharp, but a bit paler than in better, more expensive mobile phone displays and many OLED panels.
Another showpiece alongside the design of the Honor 9 Lite is the software. The smartphone ships directly with Android 8.0 Oreo, the security patch from January and the latest EMUI 8. Project Treble is also supported. That’s not even the case for top smartphones everywhere, and probably not in the price of around 200 USD, in which the Honor 9 Lite is at home. Sure, EMUI is not for everyone, but the look is highly customizable, and some features are helpful, such as gesture control via the well-functioning fingerprint sensor.
The Double Dual Camera on the Honor 9 Lite!
The double-dual camera makes the Honor 9 Lite stand out from the crowd. Even at the front, there is a module with two lenses and sensors, which many cheap smartphones do not even have on the back. Honors parent company Huawei was the first well-known manufacturer to install dual cameras, and one notices this experience. The implementation of the bokeh mode is well done, in the gallery app, the focus can be set retrospectively and adjust the blur of the background. But there are always errors in the calculation of the depth map, and this problem has all these software solutions. Overall, the quality of the cameras, the front and rear has the same resolution of 13 and 2 megapixels, elegant for the price range.
Honor 9 Lite with Solid Performance!
The Honor 9 Lite contains a Kirin 659 from Hisilicon with 3 GB of RAM. This is enough in everyday life for a performance that will satisfy most people and their demands. Though, it is clear that the Honor 9 Lite is not one of the fastest smartphones on the market. Short charging breaks and stuttering occur again and again, but you still have to expect and live in this price range.
Good Battery Life, but No Quick Charge!
The Honor 9 Lite has a 3,000 mAh battery. It manages comfortably for a day without contact with the charging cable, and the economy will need even on the second day in the evening, the power supply. Not a bad performance for a smartphone – but at the same time, a rather bleak light on the “advances” of the battery technology throws. There is no fast charge on the Honor 9 Lite.
For the price, the Honor 9 Lite offers a convincing overall package, at least at first glance. The smartphone is not the fastest, but it has a chic design, comes with the latest Android version and two dual cameras. On the downside are the old micro-USB port, which is just about acceptable in this price range, and the poor speaker.
