How to plan your Travel to Mauritius

Mauritius officially called, The Republic of Mauritius is an island nation that lies on the Indian Ocean and is around 2,000 kilometres away from the continent of Africa.  The Island of Mauritius is a part of Mascarene Islands which also includes Rodrigues and nearby Reunion which is a French Overseas Department. The country of Mauritius includes Rodrigues, Agaléga and St. Brandon which are all Islands that are part of the Indian Ocean.

Mauritius was a part of Dutch colony from 1638-17, French Colony from 1715-1810, during the French period, the Island was renamed as Isle de France. After French rule, the island came under the rule of British from 1810 and was under their influence until 1968 which was the same year when they gained Independence. Mauritius people are multicultural, multiethnic, multi-religious and multi-linguistic, they are highly ranked for democracy, economic and political freedom. The Human Development Index is highest compared to regions of Africa. The island nation of Mauritius is highly developed in the region, the citizens are eligible for free universal health care, free education up to tertiary level and free public transportation for students, senior citizens and the disabled.

The Flora and Fauna of Mauritius are known to have many endemic species and also some of the extinct species which became extinct shortly after human settlements. Majority of People follow Hinduism as the main religion which makes Mauritius the only country of Africa where you can find a large concentration of Hindu religion followers. They do not have an official language however, English is widely spoken language.

Indians visiting Mauritius can easily enter as Immigration has been made easy for Indian Nationalities. Mauritius accepts Visa on Arrival for Indians, however, you need to adhere to some rules which will make it easy for you to enter the nation.

1) The Passport should be valid for at least 6 months from the date of arrival.

2) You should have a valid passport and hotel booking confirmation along with your travel itinerary.

3) The tourist visa for Mauritius is valid for 60 days from the issuing date.

4) You should carry at least 600US$ or have a minimum of 75,000INR if you are travelling as a couple.

There are many non-stop flights from Mumbai to Mauritius, and from other Indian cities, there are many connecting flights. Non-Stop flights from Mumbai are operated by Air India and Air Mauritius. Several other airlines such as Air Seychelles, Emirates, Kenya Airways, Air France, British Airways, and Lufthansa etc have connecting flights to the Island Nation of Mauritius. The Airport of Mauritius is Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport and its code is MRU. The official currency of Mauritius is Mauritian rupee.
