How to Reach Prayagraj and Where to Stay in Kumbh Mela 2019

It is not difficult to reach Kumbh for those coming from the corners of the country and abroad. All arrangements for bus, train, and flight are available to reach Kumbh Mela. Simply booking before would save time and spare you from the last-minute tension. Prayagraj is connected to all major cities of India through the air, rail and road due to being important religious and administrative sites. So, let me tell you how to reach Kumbh briefly. 

How to reach Kumbh via Air: 12 kilometers from Prayagraj (Allahabad), Allahabad Domestic Airport is also known as Bamrauli Air Force Base. Apart from this, there are two other Airports near Allahabad – about 130 km from Prayagraj, near the Lal Bahadur Shastri Airport in Varanasi and about 200 kilometers from Prayagraj, Amausi International Airport in Lucknow, capital of Uttar Pradesh. Kanpur airport is 200 km away from Prayagraj. After reaching: To reach the Kumbh Mela, you will get the local train, auto rickshaw, city buses and inter-state buses from the bus stop, station, airport.

How to reach Kumbh via Train: If you have not gone to Prayagaraj (Allahabad) then you may feel that there is Allahabad Junction, Prayag Ghat or Prayag Junction to reach there, but it is not so. You can easily reach the Kumbh Mela by ticketing these railway stations. There are 10 Railway Stations in and around Prayagraj as listed below:

Allahabad Chhinni (ACO) – 9.4 km

Naini Junction- (NYN) – 7.2 km

Allahabad Junction- (ALD) – 6.5 km

Phaphmau Junction- (PFM) – 11.9 km

Subedarganj- (SFG) – 11.2 km

Allahabad City- (ALY) – 3.8 km

Daraganj- (DRGJ) – 1.3 km

Jhusi- (JI) – 7.6 km

Allahabad has ten railway stations connected to major cities of India like Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Indore, Bhopal, Gwalior, Jaipur, Lucknow, Varanasi, Kanpur, Pune, Raipur, Dehradun, Bhubaneswar, etc.

The railways are accessible from all the destination locations, and the IRCTC will make their respective booking. The website where you can make the reservation is from the irctc.co.in and Rail Kumbh app (special rail). Apart from this, 800 special trains will also run for Kumbh Mela. There will be 6 special trains from every zone of the country. All stations under the Prayagraj area can book the unreserved tickets for 15 days in advance. 

How to reach Kumbh via Road: Prayagraj city is connected to all parts of the country through the national and state highways of India. You can come to Prayagraj directly from the capital of Rajasthan, Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra, West Bengal, and Haryana states.

For tourists and pilgrims, there are three buses in Prayagraj, which carry various routes of the country through interstate bus services. Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation will run thousands of special buses for Kumbh for the Ganga bathing.

Housing Facilities: There are various amenities available for pilgrims living in Prayagraj – including deluxe hotels, budget hotels, heritage hotels, guesthouses, hospices, and camps. 

Along with the long list of private hotels, dharmashalas, arrangements for stopping at the Kumbh Mela, you have the option of a luxurious tent city set up by the UP Government. I stayed in the biggest tent of Kumbh Mela, that was Indraprastham City. Indraprastham tent city grand luxuries, outstanding hospitality just a perfect place for luxury seekers. I stayed in Gautama (Suite), our rooms were laid out in small clusters which offer privacy and comfort for individuals, families or small groups. Tent size was almost 900 square feet with two bedrooms alongside a queen size bed.   1. I guess I was right, It is some sort of religious path or pilgrimage for its devotees. That said, It is surely something new to see but sadly, it is not just for me. I guess it all boils down to what we believe in.
