Luxurious Retreat at Chariot Beach Resort, Mahabalipuram

By MACRO TRAVELLER

Location is incredible, easy walking distance to the town Mahabalipuram with many temples carved out of the rocks. The most popular being the chariots or rathas carved out of single stone boulders which are near to the resort. The resort derives its signature title from these stone carved Chariots.I went to Chariot Beach Resort at Mahabalipuram on the weekend to attend exclusive Bloggers Meet and Retreat. It’s fabulous location, just minutes away from the beach, spacious, well-appointed rooms and friendly staff. The sunrise is beautiful that I could watch every day being so close to – almost on – the beach.Beaches always fascinated me, and the idea of a cottage on the beach side sounded very romantic. I was unprepared for such a beautiful place. At the reception, I was welcomed with a garland made of seashells. Check-in procedures were quick and hassle-free. I was shuttled to the room (I took a ‎Deluxe Room with Sea View Cottage) via a buggy. This resort is positioned very close to the Five Rathas. It owns a mix of rooms and cottages. The cottages were beautiful, very spacious and superbly furnished. The rooms were large and nicely tucked into greenery!

The room was immaculate, spacious and smelled fresh. The complimentary chocolates were a grand gesture. It had a seating area, dining area, large queen bed, LED TV with Tata Sky Channels, minibar, cupboard for clothing, an ironing board, hairdryer, excellent WIFI connectivity and en-suite bathroom. The en-suite bathroom on its own was very spacious and comfortable to use. The room was air-conditioned and despite the room being so big the air conditioner was easily able to maintain the set temperature. The well-stocked mini bar was outstanding. A very, very large swimming pool which was clean. Magnificent pool, in fact, a bit bigger than other resorts. The beach was gorgeous, quiet and peaceful with the resorts well-maintained greenery (trees, plants, and lawns) complementing the beauty of it all. Considering that the private beach was a bit isolated, additional security was provided.I ate in the main restaurant of the resort which faces some well-maintained gardens. The restaurant offers delicious food at the buffet or a la carte. The food from breakfast to dinner was gratifying, and the desserts were exquisitely presented. Excellent breakfast buffet with plenty of choices, more Indian dishes, but also omelets, pastries, fruit, etc. Quality of food is outstanding. The food was above average, and the portions were quite generous though. Breakfast was a good spread with a live counter. During the stay, I ate only vegetarian dishes that were very authentic, varied and tasty and were severed by a very attentive restaurant staff.

The seashell museum and Panch Rathas are walkable from here. The other attractions like shore temple, lighthouse and Arjuna’s penance are not far away. The evening games made it very enjoyable. Complete value for money and worth spending time in the Chariot. The resort representatives and staff were very caring, friendly and helpful. This is a good hotel for anyone planning to visit Mahabalipuram. I hope you like the photos which I took during my stay.
