Visit to Night Safari, Singapore

Singapore Night Safari is one of most visited tourist attraction place situated next to the Singapore Zoo. Being one of the first Night Safari in the world, this place attracts tourists from all over the world and has visitors of over 1million every year. This is an experience where you would be with some of the worlds nocturnal animals. With over 59 exhibits and 1000+ animals, this place is segregated into geographical regions which can be accessed by 4 walking trails and a guided tram tour.

Night Safari is open from 19:30 – 00:00 every day and can be accessed by Train, Bus or Cab.

Take MRT to Ang Mo Kio station and alight SBS 138 bus and you need to walk towards the Safari.

You can also book Shuttle Bus towards Safari where the bus has a specific boarding point, or if you want to reach quickly you can book a cab. Ticket price starts 49SGD and it is advisable to book the tickets online so as to skip the waiting queue at the counter.

One of the first things that you notice once you enter Night Safari is that it is dotted with many restaurants and cafes where you can have dinner or grab a light snack. It is better to have dinner and enter as it requires a lot of walking and exploration. There are restaurants such as Jungle Rotisserie, Ulu Ulu Safari Restaurant, Safari Sizzles, Zebra Cafe, Ben & Jerry and Mandai mart where you can taste various cuisines such as Indian, Italian, Continental and Asian. If you have a mood to eat gelato then there is a cafe named Casa Italia where they serve gelato. Be it from full course meal to fast food, they serve here at these restaurants near the entrance of Safari.

Being one of Nocturnal Place, important notice is that people should not use Flash Photography as the lights are adjusted to mimic Moon Light so that it wont affect Natural Habitat of these animals. There is a fire show at the entrance called Thrumbuakar where you can witness good pyrotechnic shows while you enter or when you exit. There is also another show called Creatures of the Night which is one of the most popular shows and seats would be filled up in no time hence it is advisable to arrive 30 minutes prior to start. This show focus on how Nocturnal Animals co-exist in wild and a glimpse of their typical cycle of the day.

MTTIPs: Choose Tram ride first so as to know the regions of the park and animals as this would be a guided tour, later you can choose to walk.

There will be a guided tram tour inside the safari where the tour guide will explain about these Nocturnal Species their habitat, diet and breeding. The ride will be of 40 minutes and will cover all 6 regions of the park as some regions are not permitted to be walked, it is better to use Tram and cover these regions. The regions include Himalayan Foothills, Indian Subcontinent, Equatorial Africa, Asian Riverine Forest, Nepalese River Valley and Burmese Hillside. Here you can notice animals such as Malayan Tigers, Asiatic Elephants, Hyenas, Lions and Tapirs.

Once you finish the Tram ride you can explore 4 walking trails such as

  1. A) Wallaby Trail: Here you can notice small animals called Wallaby where they would be roaming around you, there is also an inland cave where you can notice other nocturnal animals adapted to cave environment.
  2. East Lodge Trail: With its glass enclosures this trail has many Asian and African animals which can be viewed from a near distance. This place has animals like Malayan Tiger, Hyenas and Elephants.
  3. Leopard Trail: As the name suggests this is a closed space with glass for viewing has some of best nocturnal hunters, The Leopards. Here you can notice these majestic creatures hunting in the dark.
  4. Fishing Cat Trail: Here you can notice fishing cat catching fish for its dinner.

Whilst walking you can notice other small nocturnal creatures like critters, scorpions etc so keep attentive while taking a stroll across walking trails.

Once you are contented noticing these creatures and their behaviour during night time there is a souvenir shop where you can pick your favourite gift item or a memoir so that the visit to Night Safari will be in your memory for a long time.

You can also experience Fire Show during exit if you had missed watching during entering. This show will be presented to you every day except Wednesday with its timing being 19:00,20:00 and 21:00. If there is a cloudy sky then there is no chance to catch a glimpse of this show.

After you exit you can take a shuttle to drop to your point or book a cab on your way home/hotel.

  3. Nightlife is not really my thing but I still such places sometimes to experience it. Life is short and I guess doing and experiencing things and places we have the opportunity to should be grabbed with both hands.

  8. Thanks so much for the handy tip of not using flash photography during the night safari so that it doesn’t affect the natural habitat of the animals. I like that precaustions are taken to ensure that the animals are well taken care of.

  10. Hmm, this night Safari is really new to me, never heard of going to the zoo at night though. But it could be quite exciting visiting a zoo at night and also creepy. What a wonder.

  11. Night safaris are amazing, because then you can see all the animals that hide during the day. It’s also very quite and relaxing to just enjoy the cool breeze of the night in nature.
