OnePlus 6 Smartphone Review: Truly Flagship Killer

The OnePlus 6, as the highly anticipated successor to the OnePlus 5T. In this review, I’ll show you what makes the OnePlus 6 a very special and perhaps even trend-setting smartphone.

OnePlus is one of the brands that currently offers one of the best price/quality ratios in the market. It’s true that it does not always have the latest technologies, but it manages to maintain a performance that is well above average.

Having opted more for quality with OP3 and OP3T, the Chinese brand recorded sales records with last year’s OnePlus 5 and 5T models, making the brand plans even more ambitious for 2018. At the end of last month, after several rumours  was announced the new OnePlus 6 that brought some news to this flagship in both design and hardware.

A new design with new materials

In the OnePlus 5 and 5T, the Chinese brand bets on metal construction to give a more substantial look to its flagships. Following in line with the market trend, the new version is now in the glass which gives it a more premium but also more fragile look. With the move to this material, OnePlus would be expected to introduce wireless charging, something that did not happen. With the first use of this smartphone, it is easily noticeable that this is an authentic “fingerprint magnet” on the back panel.

At the design level, the Chinese brand fled a little in the back to the inspiration of the iPhone, as usual, but chose to insert the famous notch in the front.

A larger screen

Facing its predecessor, the OnePlus 5T, the new flagship has brought the more excellent use of the margins allowing it to have a slightly larger screen. The previous version had 6.01 “, while the new model features a 19: 9 screen of 6.28”. In the case of the resolution, there was no change, maintaining FullHD +, as well as AMOLED technology

This increase is not remarkable in the dimensions of the smartphone, but it appeals to the users who “devour” multimedia in the smartphone.

Top performance as we have been accustomed toFor the first few hours of use, we realize that this new smartphone follows in line with the performance of its predecessors. The OnePlus 5 and 5T were already considered two of the fastest models on the market, compared to top-end hardware and a near-stock system, and this new version should not be inferior.

The OnePlus 6 comes with OxygenOS 5.1 based on Android 8.1. It’s one of the systems I like most about smartphones. Stock Android inspires the system, but it comes with a lot of custom features that are selected and developed based on community feedback, so you have only the bare minimum, and the system does not seem overloaded. That can also be a reason why OxygenOS feels so fast. What features are integrated, you can also look in our video with the essential tips and tricks for the OnePlus 6 once.

In tests, we have the version of OnePlus 6 with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage, accompanied by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, characteristics that should overcome any challenge that is proposed.

Will we finally have a significant stake in photography?

While previous models already featured prominently in photographic capabilities, this was never a point where OnePlus stood out. With OnePlus 6 the brand tries to change this image, having announced a relevant jump in quality. The new dual camera now has a 16 MP sensor and a 20 MP sensor that is currently supported by optical image stabilization (OIS) that can make a difference.

A slow-motion feature is included with the OnePlus 6, where you can “only” with 1080p 240 FPS and 720p 480 FPS record.  Besides, the quality of the video is not as bad as its competitors. Even at 720p, the slow-motion is relatively sharp and not as pale as the competition.

I like the front camera for videos very well. Not only that the quality is excellent, but also the stabilization. Here electronic image stabilization is used, which makes the video look as if you were filming it with a gimbal. That’s even without quality loss.

Fast loading, Android P, and Water Resistance

With 6 or 8 GB of RAM, you should have enough memory for all current applications. Also, the combination of 4K 60 FPS videos worked tremendously and relatively fast. As we have become accustomed to, OnePlus maintains its rapid loading technology, considered the fastest in the market (having already abandoned the name Dash Charge). The built-in battery in this model is 3300 mAh.

For this new flagship, the Chinese brand presented two new features, water resistance and the possibility of testing the new Android P. The first thing was something already asked by its followers, while the latest version of Android is a bonus that few expected. By default, this smartphone brings the Android 8.1 Oreo, but anyone can already test the latest beta version of Android 9.

The OnePlus 6 is, in my opinion, the best smartphone on the market at the moment. Not technically since others do better on other criteria. But they are also much more expensive. Some even reach double. The OnePlus 6 has everything a user needs: a sleek glass design, a quality screen, unparalleled performance so far, simple and intuitive software, an excellent camera, it is an excellent tool for filming , it has a remarkable autonomy, the fastest charging system available, and a very affordable price with regard to all its capabilities. So you can find it at an unbeatable price.
